OpenClaw is an open source, self-hosted gateway that connects your favorite chat apps to real AI agents. It runs on your own hardware, remembers context in plain Markdown files, and can actually do things: read and write files, run commands, search the web, and message you back on Telegram, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord and more.

This hands-on course takes you from a blank machine to a personal, always-available AI assistant that you own end to end. You will simulate every install command in a safe in-browser terminal, hold real practice conversations with your agent across each channel, and learn the security choices that keep a self-hosted agent safe.

By the end you will be able to:

  • Explain the OpenClaw gateway model and where the agent, channels, and control surfaces fit
  • Install OpenClaw and complete first-run onboarding
  • Shape your agent with workspace files: SOUL, AGENTS, IDENTITY, TOOLS, and MEMORY
  • Connect Telegram, WhatsApp, and Slack, and reason about pairing and allowlists
  • Install and use skills from ClawHub, the community skill registry
  • Give your agent persistent memory, proactive schedules, and specialist sub-agents
  • Harden and deploy your assistant with least-privilege access

No prior server, Docker, or AI agent experience is required. Everything technical is simulated inside the lessons so you can learn by doing without installing anything first.
